It comes as no surprise that Apple leads the pack with a 24.6% market share and 17.8 million units shipped. While that figure seems impressive, it is a lot lower than last quarter's 26.8 million shipments.
Samsung's rival Xiaomi is leagues behind with a market share of 6.8% and 4.8 million units shipped. Indian stalwart boAt and China-based Edifier are on the list, too. Both brands witnessed explosive growth due to their slew of low-cost offerings.
The company's recent Galaxy Buds 2 seems to have been a smash hit among consumers. Although it is priced on the higher end of the spectrum, the feature set it offers seems to be enough to entice new users. However, Samsung would do well to focus on the lower end of the price spectrum as well. At this point, Apple's hegemony in the high-end earphone market is well established, so Samsung would to well to explore other avenues.
It'll be interesting to see the future of Samsung's audio offerings once it enters the healthcare sector. Recent patents suggest that Samsung could include heart rate, blood oxygen and blood pressure sensors into its offerings.
