According to a report from Canalys, the overall smartphone market dropped a whopping 20% in Q1 2023 compared to Q1 2022. In that sense, Samsung did well, with just an 11% drop in its shipments. The Galaxy S23 series did really well in the Indian market, and the South Korean firm claimed that it saw 40% more sales compared to the Galaxy S22 series during the same time period.
OPPO ranked second with 5.5 million smartphone shipments and a market share of 18%. This is the only brand that achieved growth among the top five players, with an annual growth of a whopping 18%. Vivo ranked third with 5.4 million smartphone shipments and a market share of close to 18%. Xiaomi, which was at the number one position last year, had a massive drop in numbers. The Chinese smartphone firm shipped 5 million units, which is a whopping 38% drop compared to Q1 2022.
Realme fell even harder, selling 2.9 million smartphone units in Q1 2023. That's a massive 52% drop in shipments compared to Q1 2022. Note that OPPO's shipments include OnePlus business and Xiaomi's shipments include POCO business.
