Samsung reveals plans for Good Lock 2024 and One UI 6.1 early

Samsung officially announced Good Lock 6.0, the next major update to the app, earlier today and revealed the changes and features it will be bringing to the table when it releases alongside Android 14 and One UI 6.0. But Samsung didn't stop there and has also revealed some of the new stuff we can expect from Good Lock in 2024 and on One UI 6.1.

Perhaps the most important announcement here is that Good Lock 2024 will enable users to customize the Game Booster feature that comes preloaded on all Samsung phones and tablets. For those unaware, Game Booster is designed to enhance your gameplay experience through features such as performance and battery life optimization, reduction of distractions from notifications as you play, and more.

Good Lock 2024 will bring Game Booster customization, new Kids Cafe features

Game Booster is one of those Samsung apps that doesn't really get updated too often, so its inclusion in Good Lock is a welcome one as it will mean we will finally see new functionality in the app. Unfortunately, Samsung isn't saying what that new functionality will be, only that it will be taking customer feedback into account for new features and improvements to existing features.

    Story continues after the video

Good Lock will also bring some other changes next year when One UI 6.1 is released (One UI 6.1 will debut on the Galaxy S24 lineup and eventually be released for existing devices). According to Samsung, customization options available in Good Lock's LockStar and ClockFace modules will be directly accessible from within the OS' native Settings app, while the Kids Cafe module will allow users to “map desired functions to keyboard gestures and designate keyboard touch sounds.”

In 2024, Good Lock will hopefully be released in more countries. Samsung expanded its availability to a few countries this year, but we and other Samsung fans will only be satisfied when Good Lock becomes available everywhere Samsung sells its phones and tablets.

Galaxy S24 AI Generative Edit is brilliant, faulty, intuitive, and lacking all at once

Samsung's AI-powered Generative Edit tool is one of the latest additions to the Gallery app, available exclusively for the Galaxy S24 series. I tried Generative Edit on my Galaxy S24+, and it shows a lot of promise but could use a few more features. Here's what I make of it. To keep things simple, I […]

Galaxy S24’s AI slow-mo feature has a resolution limit

Instant Slow-mo is one of many additions to One UI 6.1 for the Galaxy S24 series. It's a neat little feature that lets you slow down videos when you play them inside the Gallery app. All you need is to tap and hold the screen and let the magic happen. Although it works reliably, we […]

Customize the Galaxy S24 lock screen in One UI 6.1

As most people know by now, the Galaxy S24 series ships with an updated version of One UI. Samsung's proprietary Android interface got some new features, including AI-powered tools, but also implemented a few odd changes to the general interface. When Samsung released the One UI 5.0 update in 2022, it changed how Galaxy device […]

Here’s why Samsung won’t bring AI features to phones released before 2023

Samsung says that the Galaxy S24 is its first AI Phone. But what does that mean? The company's newest flagship smartphone comes with Galaxy AI, which is a suite of dozens of AI-powered features that enhance a user's daily life. For example, Galaxy AI offers real-time language translations during messaging and voice calls, removing the […]

I hate Samsung for removing its navigation gesture system in One UI 6.1

I hate Samsung for removing its navigation gesture system in One UI 6.1

Samsung is notorious for loading its Android smartphones with in-house versions of some Google apps, essentially giving users two apps for doing the same thing. Some call these Samsung apps bloatware, but there's no denying the fact that Samsung's versions of those apps often offer more functionality and flexibility. The same goes for features built […]
