Google Photos backup is coming to the Samsung Gallery app

Samsung Gallery is getting Google Photos integration through an update to the Gallery Cloud Sync app on One UI 9.0 devices.

The feature is not visible to most users yet, but testers have activated it and seen sync, cleanup, and storage controls.

Google Photos is expected to replace Microsoft OneDrive integration in Samsung Gallery after OneDrive support ends on September 30, 2026.

A few weeks ago, Samsung announced that it would end support for Microsoft OneDrive integration with the Gallery app on Galaxy phones and tablets. Now, it has been revealed that the company will bring Google Photos integration to the Gallery app instead.

Samsung recently released an update to the Gallery Cloud Sync app, a system app on Galaxy devices running One UI 9.0. According to the app's description, this update (version 1.6.09.31) introduces Google Photos integration.

However, even after installing the update on our Galaxy devices running One UI 9.0, the Google Photos integration isn't visible yet.

Google Photos integration should go live from October 1

Since Microsoft OneDrive integration support is ending on September 30, 2026, we believe Google Photos integration will replace it starting October 1. OneDrive integration replaced Samsung Cloud integration five years ago.

While the feature isn't live yet, some tinkerers have managed to activate it. As you can see in the screenshots below, once you grant permission for the Samsung Gallery app to integrate with Google Photos, it will display how much storage is available in your Google account, along with controls for syncing, cleaning up storage space, and getting more storage.

Google Photos integration in the Samsung Gallery app

Samsung already offers Google Photos integration on newer TVs launched in 2025 or later. So, it appears that this feature has been in the works for phones since last year.
