Galaxy S24 One UI 8 firmware development finally moves ahead

One UI 8 firmware for the Galaxy S24-series phones has finally been spotted on Samsung's servers (via Tarun Vats). Over the last couple of months, we have gotten access to early One UI 8 (Android 16) builds for devices like the Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Galaxy Z Flip 6. But development on the 2024 Galaxy S flagship lineup's One UI 8 firmware seemed stuck in limbo.

That's finally changing. One UI 8 test firmware for the Galaxy S24 Ultra's international model is now online on Samsung's servers. Perhaps we will get access to this firmware and take it for a spin, though we would prefer Samsung lets users test One UI 8 on their S24, S24+ or S24 Ultra through the official beta program.

Unfortunately, Samsung has given us no indications that it's planning to expand the beta program to devices other the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Samsung hasn't said it won't do so in the future, but for now, we suggest keeping your expectations low. Oh, and if you own the Galaxy S24 FE, you will have to sit it out even if the beta comes to the S24 lineup.

One UI 8 will be the second major OS upgrade for the Galaxy S24 series. That's the second of seven such major updates that Samsung has promised. However, One UI 8 is rather boring when it comes to new features, so you're not missing out on much.
