All rumors indicate that the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature four rear-facing cameras, including a 200MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, and two 10MP telephoto cameras — one with 3x optical zoom and the other boasting 10x capabilities thanks to folded-lens technology. According to a new report, China's Sunny Optical will supply two of four Galaxy S23 Ultra cameras.

Sunny Optical has reportedly joined Samsung's supply chain for Galaxy S23 Ultra cameras. The company will provide 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP folded zoom (10x) shooters for Samsung's upcoming flagship. However, it won't be the only company responsible for supplying these types of sensors. To an unspecified percentage, Samsung Electronics will also acquire the 10MP folded zoom telephoto camera and the 12MP ultra-wide shooter destined for the Galaxy S23 Ultra from Korea's Namuga and Samsung Electro-Mechanics.

Meanwhile, reports say that the 200MP primary sensor will be supplied by Electro-Mechanics, which is unsurprising, given that the sensor will bear the ISOCELL branding. Finally, Samsung will obtain the 10MP telephoto shooter with 3x zoom capabilities from both Partron and Mcnex.

Galaxy flagship camera experience may see its biggest upgrade in recent years

Leaving the matters of supply chain and megapixels aside, prospective Galaxy S23 Ultra buyers will mostly be interested in whether or not the 2023 flagship delivers a superior mobile photography experience. And according to recent rumors, it will. In fact, some say the Galaxy S23 Ultra will offer the biggest upgrade in recent years compared to previous Ultra models.

Specifically, the Galaxy S23 Ultra may set new standards for low-light photography and image clarity at high zoom levels. It could be the best-in-class once it hits the market. As to when that might happen, recent rumors indicate that Samsung may host its next major Unpacked event in early February. As usual, we'll keep you posted as soon as we find out more.

Like curved screens? Galaxy S23 Ultra is still a choice, but it isn’t cheap

A few weeks ago, we discussed the Galaxy S23 Ultra and why it may have marked the end of a 9-year legacy. In short, it might be the last Samsung phone with a curved, a.k.a., ‘Edge' display. And the good news is that it still is awesome in 2024. The bad news is that it […]

Samsung’s top acquisitions man returns as big deals expected

Samsung has not participated in the mergers and acquisitions market for more than 7 years, despite having more than $60 billion in cash that it could use to buy new companies. Its absence from this space was also partly due to the legal troubles of heir Lee Jae-yong, who only recently returned to the top […]

Samsung’s product naming has a grammar problem

Samsung’s product naming has a grammar problem

I'm a big fan of Samsung using proper nouns to label most of its home electronics. For instance, PC monitors names are no longer just a string of seemingly random letters and numbers. Instead, they belong to lineups named ‘Odyssey' or ‘ViewFinity.' It makes Samsung look better instead of coming across as a company that […]
