Say bye-bye to Samsung DeX on Windows 7 and macOS

Samsung DeX is one of the best pieces of productivity software that the company has ever made. It transforms your smartphone or tablet software into a desktop-like UI when connected to a bigger display (monitor or TV). It even works when you connect it to a computer running macOS or Windows, provided that it has the Samsung DeX software installed.

If you regularly use DeX on your computer, there might be some bad news for you. Samsung has announced that it will stop supporting DeX on computers running macOS and Windows 7 (or older OS versions) starting next year. Users running Samsung DeX on macOS have already started seeing pop-ups regarding the company's plans.

The South Korean firm has also updated its DeX-related webpage to mention, “The DeX for PC service for Mac/Windows 7 OS will be terminated as of January 2022. For any further questions or assistance, please contact us through Samsung Members.

Users who already have DeX installed on their computer can continue to use it, but the company will no longer update it or support it. Windows 7 users can upgrade their computer to Windows 10 or the recently-released Windows 11 operating system.

macOS users would no longer be able to download DeX software on their computers. If they have a monitor, they can use a DeX dock or a USB-C to HDMI cable to connect their Galaxy smartphone or tablet and use DeX. The company had released a beta version of DeX for Linux but terminated it without ever releasing a stable version.

Samsung’s DeX notebook needs to evolve the platform to be taken seriously

A pretty wild rumor recently suggested that Samsung is developing a DeX notebook. Or, more specifically, the so-called DeXbook would combine the in-house desktop experience with Google's ChromeOS. It's a far-out idea but might work under the right circumstances. Or, at the very least, it would be a unique experiment to behold. However, as an […]

Samsung may be developing a new device for its DeX platform. What is it? By the sound of it, it's anybody's guess. But rumors say it's called DeXbook. And if that name sounds familiar, it's because it has now re-emerged after more than three years of silence. At the beginning of 2020, DeXbook was rumored […]

Exclusive: Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be smallest Samsung phone to support DeX

The Galaxy Z Flip line of clamshell foldables from Samsung is not exactly as flagship-grade as some of us would like. While you get a lot of high-end features, such as the latest Snapdragon chips and 120Hz AMOLED displays, Galaxy Z Flip smartphones are lacking in some areas. The cameras, for example, are not as […]
