The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series are the market leaders in the foldable smartphone segment. Well, it seems like the success of the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold series and the lack of competitors in this segment has given Samsung a dominant position in the foldable smartphone market.

According to a report by research firm Omida, in 2021 itself, the shipment of foldable smartphones witnessed a 309% year-over-year growth. Samsung, one of the world's largest smartphone makers and the key player in the foldable category, accounted for over 88% of the foldable smartphone shipments.

Galaxy Z Flip 3 accounted for 52% of the foldable smartphone market

Unsurprisingly, thanks to the affordable price tag, and the packed features, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, with 4.6 million shipments, became the world's leading foldable smartphone model. It accounted for 52% of the foldable smartphone market last year.

The second most shipped foldable smartphone in 2021 was the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Samsung shipped 2.5 million units of the device, taking up 27% of the shipments. For 2021, Huawei was the second largest OEM in the foldable smartphone category. With 0.9 million shipments, it accounted for 10% of the market share.

It will be interesting to see how this year unfolds for Samsung, as the company is planning to launch the next-gen Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 devices with enhanced durability and usability.
