Samsung's Camera Assistant app, which lets you customize the stock camera app beyond its default settings, will soon receive an update that adds new features and improves existing functionality for devices running One UI 9.0.
One of the more interesting additions is a new feature called Mirror View, which will initially be exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Unfortunately, there's no description of the feature, so its purpose remains a mystery. Based on the name, it could be related to how the camera preview is displayed, but we'll have to wait until the new foldables launch to find out exactly what it does.
Another new feature, which won't be exclusive to any particular device, is the option to disable the camera's auto-off function. When enabled, it will prevent the Camera app from automatically closing after being left idle for a period of time.
Samsung is also improving the Minimum shutter speed feature it introduced in Camera Assistant with One UI 8.5. This option lets users set a lower limit for the shutter speed in Photo mode, helping reduce motion blur and image noise in certain situations. With the upcoming update, Samsung is adding a new 1/60-second option. Currently, users can choose from 1/1000, 1/500, 1/120, and 1/30 seconds.
Samsung is also adding support for more languages to Camera Assistant. The app already supports a wide range of languages, so the company is likely expanding that list. Finally, the update will bring usability improvements for TILTA wireless lens controllers.
This new update will likely roll out around the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in late July. As for the foldable-exclusive Mirror View feature, it will likely make its way to older Galaxy foldables through a future update.
