At CES 2021, Samsung demonstrated a robot capable of doing all your household chores called the Samsung Bot Handy. While the demo was quite impressive, Samsung neglected to specify any launch date for the futuristic piece of tech, and that still holds true today. However, Samsung seems to have set the wheels in motion, according to a report by The Korea Herald.
Samsung may launch robot-based appliances in the U.S. and Canada
Samsung has filed a patent for the “Samsung Bot” moniker with the World Intellectual Property Organization. It tells us that Samsung is readying the robot for launch in the United States and Canada, at least. Usually, Samsung likes to launch its groundbreaking products in South Korea first, and that could very well be the case with the Samsung Bot.
It is also worth noting that the Samsung Bot trademark encompasses a wide range of AI-driven products such as robot vacuum cleaners, wearable exoskeletons, kitchen aids, and more. Then again, we have to remember that a trademark filing means little in the grand scheme of things. The Samsung Bot will have to pass through a myriad of certifications from the FCC and other regulatory agencies before it will be cleared for the mass market.
Nonetheless, it tells us that Samsung hasn't completely forgotten about the Samsung Bot Handy and that we could see it in the flesh someday. Samsung also plans to expand its robotics department by acquiring a well-known player in the field, as hinted by Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee.
