Samsung 990 Pro SSD pre-order customers can win the Odyssey Ark

After a delay of a couple of weeks, the brand-new Samsung 990 Pro SSD is now available for pre-order in the USA. And to sweeten the offer, pre-order customers are automatically entered into a giveaway wherein they have a chance to win the Odyssey Ark gaming monitor and $100 Samsung Credit.

Only one lucky winner (picked randomly) will receive the 55-inch Odyssey Ark curved gaming monitor as a free prize once the pre-order period for the 990 Pro SSD ends. Five additional 990 Pro SSD pre-order customers will have a chance to receive $100-worth of Samsung Credit, which they can then spend to lower the price of other products purchased from the company's online store.

The Odyssey Ark is, to put it bluntly, a bonkers curved gaming monitor with a 1000R curvature and an adjustable kickstand that supports landscape and portrait modes. It has “Multi View,” which allows up to four screens to be displayed at once, and it even boasts a 60W 2.2.2 channel speaker system consisting of four speakers and two woofers, complete with Dolby Atmos and Quad OTS (Object Tracking Sound). Now, back to the SSD.

Samsung 990 Pro SSD starts at $169

Samsung is selling the 990 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD with or without a built-in heatsink. As of now, pre-order customers can choose between 1TB and 2TB of storage. The 4TB variant will be available at a later date.

The 1TB 990 Pro without a heatsink can be pre-ordered for $169, whereas the variant with a heatsink costs $189. The 2TB 990 Pro SSD costs $289 sans the heatsink, and Samsung offers the 2TB heatsinked model for $309. The heatsink variants are primarily needed for gaming consoles — in fact, console users must use the 990 Pro with a heatsink to offset the low airflow enabled by gaming console designs.

In terms of performance, the 990 Pro claims up to a 50% performance improvement per watt over the 980 Pro. The new SSD reaches sequential read/write speeds of up to 7450/6900 MB/s, almost topping out the performance ceiling of the PCIe 4.0 expansion bus.
