In a press release, Google and Samsung announced the start of an era of more seamless and high-quality messaging through RCS. Now that iPhones have received the iOS 18.1 update, RCS has started rolling out on Apple's smartphones. It allows high-quality and seamless messaging between Android phones and iPhones.
Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google, revealed that Samsung has been instrumental in the success and wider adoption of RCS. He said, “We have worked hard for years to make RCS the standard for improved cross-platform messaging, and Samsung has been instrumental in the growing adoption of RCS.”
Samsung has started phasing out its Samsung Messages app in favor of the Google Messages app to improve RCS adoption. Samsung also released three new videos to highlight how RCS improves the overall messaging experience of Android and iOS users.
You can watch those videos below.
RCS allows for the sharing of high-resolution images and videos.
RCS also offers reactions to messages and group chats with all the messaging features that are synonymous with modern-day messaging.
Apple is slowly adding RCS to compatible iPhones (running iOS 18.1) on a carrier-by-carrier basis. So, not every iPhone user has RCS access right now, but it will keep improving in the coming months.
