Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X Elite, which is currently the latest chipset from the company for laptops, in October 2023. The announcement made a big splash in the industry as Qualcomm claimed that the Snapdragon X Elite offers two times faster performance than the competition, where it indirectly referred to the Apple M2, which was already a very fast chipset. Since then, Apple has launched the M3, which is faster than the M2, and people have been wondering how the Snapdragon X Elite holds up to it. Well, Qualcomm has revealed some numbers, and the news is very exciting.

Qualcomm has revealed to Digital Trends that the Snapdragon X Elite is 21% faster than the Apple M3 in multi-core performance. That’s an amazing achievement. The figure comes from the Geekbench benchmark test where the Qualcomm Oryon CPU scored 15,300 points, whereas, the Apple M3 scored 12,154 points. The company also told the publication that the Snapdragon X Elite offers faster single-core performance than the Apple M3. Unfortunately, Qualcomm hasn’t revealed any comparison numbers for the single-threaded performance.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite 21 Percent Faster Than Apple M3 In Geekbench Multi-Core Benchmark

The devil is in the details

While the Snapdragon X Elite has outperformed the Apple M3, Qualcomm hasn’t revealed the thermal design power (TDP) at which its chipset was operating to achieve that result. For your information, Qualcomm had said that the Snapdragon X Elite has two power profiles, 23W and 80W. As you might have guessed, the chipset offers better performance at 80W than at 23W. However, at 80W, it consumes more power and offers lower battery backup than at 23W. If the Snapdragon X Elite offers that performance at 23W TDP, we’d be amazed, and it would be very good news for Windows users.

A few days ago, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Book 4 lineup, and all the models in it feature 14th Gen processors from Intel, which are very powerful. Unfortunately, there's no information how these chipsets compete with the one from Qualcomm. However, if the Korean tech giant decides to launch a version with the Snapdragon X Elite, it would be more powerful than the latest MacBook models.
