Samsung introduced Now Bar with One UI 7.0 last year. With One UI 8.0, Now Bar received support for Android 16's Live Updates feature, and it was only used by apps from Google and Samsung. Now, it has received support from a third-party app.
Indian food delivery app Zomato has recently released a new update (version 19.2.4.1) that brings support for Now Bar on One UI 8.0 (Android 16). As shown in the screenshots below, the app now displays the estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the order in a smaller, condensed form within Now Bar. Tapping on Now Bar on the lock screen reveals more information, which in this case is “Preparing your order.“
On the status bar, in the pill-shaped UI element, the Now Bar displays the name of the app and the ETA. When you tap the pill-shaped element, it expands to display all the information related to food delivery, including the ETA, status of the order, and the name of the restaurant.
Earlier, Uber Eats was the only other food delivery app that used Android 16's Live Updates APIs to display live notifications. Now, Zomato has added it. We expect more flight and other travel apps, food and parcel delivery apps, maps and navigation apps, and sports score apps to use the feature in the future.
