Next Apple iPad Pro could support MagSafe charging and accessories

Apple introduced the MagSafe standard for iPhones in 2020, and the iPhone 12 models were the first smartphones from the company to feature this wireless charging and accessory-attachment technology. The next year, a report from Mark Gurman on Bloomberg claimed that Apple was planning to introduce the MagSafe standard on iPad Pro models soon. Unfortunately, that plan didn’t materialize till today and we haven’t had any update on the matter since then. Well, the latter is changing today.

According to a new report from MacRumors, the next version of the iPad Pro, which is expected to launch in 2024 in 11.1-inch and 13-inch screen sizes, might support MagSafe charging. The publication says that it has received this information from “a source that is familiar with companies that manufacture magnets for Apple products.

iPad Pro models with MagSafe could have glass back panels

At the moment, there’s no information on which MagSafe standard will Apple use for iPad Pro models, the one for iPhones (MagSafe for wireless charging and accessory attachment), or the one for Macs (MagSafe 3 for wired charging). However, people are expecting the company to use the MagSafe standard for iPhones for iPads as well. If the tech giant goes ahead with that, it will have to offer back panels made out of glass on the iPad Pro models, which could be more prone to damage than metal back panels.

On the positive side, people will be able to use the MagSafe wireless chargers with their iPads, which could be very convenient. Plus, they could also attach MagSafe accessories to iPads, which could open up a whole new world of possibilities. Since iPads have larger batteries than iPhones, Apple could offer faster charging speeds with MagSafe on its tablets. It could also implement the MagSafe-based 15W Qi 2 wireless charging standard on iPads. With the launch not too far away, expect more leaks on the matter soon.
