The new version of Quick Share, which integrates Google's Nearby Share, has now been listed on the Galaxy Store (via 9To5Google). While it wasn't available to install on our Galaxy S23 Ultra running One UI 6.0, it hints at a release that could happen soon. Samsung could release it to existing Galaxy smartphones and tablets running One UI 6.0. While there is a chance of the update arriving only with the One UI 6.1 update, a separate app on the Galaxy Store probably means that users won't have to wait for the One UI 6.1 update to use the new version of Quick Share.
Samsung and Google had their own file-sharing systems, and while Nearby Share was available on Samsung devices, the South Korean firm offered priority to Quick Share on its phones and tablets. Moreover, Nearby Share wasn't as fast as Quick Share. So, the companies came together and did something sensible. They merged their file-sharing systems into a single service, and it is now called Quick Share. All non-Samsung Android smartphones and tablets will also get an update to Nearby Share, after which it will be rebranded to Quick Share.
The new version of Quick Share is now also available on the Microsoft Store for devices running Windows 10 and Windows 11. Soon enough, we could see a merger of Quick Share from Samsung and the Nearby Share for Windows app from Google. A simplified and universal file-sharing system brings the whole experience closer to Apple's AirDrop, which is available on all its devices, including phones, tablets, laptops, computers, and more.
