In 2020, Google stopped the sales of magazine content on Google News. Today, the company has announced that it is discontinuing the magazine section on Google News altogether. The change will take place on December 18, 2023.
So, what about the magazines that people purchased on the platform till now? Will they be able to access it in the future? Well, Google says “To continue to access previously purchased magazine content, we are providing the opportunity to export and save each purchased issue. In some cases, purchased magazines contain interactive elements that cannot be downloaded and saved for future access, and we are offering a refund for this content.”
According to the company, if you are affected by this change, you will get an e-mail with a subject line that says “An update to Google News magazine support.” This e-mail will contain a link to the download page and/or “a unique link to your refund request form if eligible”. You have till December 18, 2023, to download the content from the platform or request a refund.
