TL;DR

  • Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to be cheaper to buy in most markets and cheaper to maintain than Apple’s iPhone Duo.
  • Apple charges $19.99 to replace the iPhone Duo’s internal screen protector with AppleCare+, but the price without AppleCare+ is not disclosed.
  • Samsung replaces the first Galaxy Z internal screen protector for free, and later replacements cost $19.99 each.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 versus iPhone Duo matchup will be a rivalry to watch out for this year. Both phones share a similar form factor, size, camera specifications, and capabilities. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is substantially cheaper in most markets, and its foldable screen protector is also more affordable to replace.

It has been revealed (via @SnazzyLabs) that replacing the iPhone Duo's internal screen protector costs $19.99 if a user has an active AppleCare+ plan. While Apple hasn't revealed the replacement price for users without AppleCare+, it will likely be significantly higher.

In contrast, Samsung offers the first internal screen protector replacement on Galaxy Z series phones for free, even without a Samsung Care+ plan. Subsequent replacements cost just $19.99 each. This ultimately makes it cheaper to maintain the Galaxy Z Fold 8's inner display compared to the iPhone Duo's.

While both devices feature an anti-reflective coating on their inner folding screens, the iPhone Duo utilizes a much more matte finish than the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Consequently, the crease on the iPhone Duo appears less visible, but the matte surface also makes the display look less vibrant than the Galaxy Z Fold 8's.
