Let us find out the answer through a specifications comparison of both foldable phones.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 looks similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, featuring a bezel-less cover display and a triple-camera setup on the rear. However, a lot has changed internally. The new phone has a thinner and stronger hinge. It even features an IPX8 rating for water resistance. Overall, the new phone is lighter and easier to use.
Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which has only one 120Hz Super AMOLED display, both screens on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 feature a 120Hz refresh rate. The new phone is also compatible with an S Pen, which means you can jot down notes on the big screen. Both phones feature a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and fast charging speeds.
Obviously, the newer device comes equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which is much faster than the Snapdragon 865 chipset in the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Both foldable phones use the same amount of RAM (12GB) and storage (256GB/512GB).
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1 onboard, and it will get four major Android OS updates (up to Android 16), while the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update will be the Galaxy Z Fold 2's last major Android OS update.
The newer phone has a slightly smaller battery than the Galaxy Z Fold 2, but a more power-efficient processor will likely make up for it. Both phones feature 11W fast wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
The most significant upgrade the Galaxy Z Fold 4 brings is its better camera setup. The 50MP primary sensor offers more details and better lossless zoom capabilities. The 12MP ultrawide cameras on both phones are the same, but the newer phone brings a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. It is an upgrade over a 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.
