TL;DR

  • Samsung moved the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 from monthly to quarterly security updates, while the Fold 3 and Flip 3 lost update support.
  • Both Fold 4 and Flip 4 received an August 2026 security patch that fixes 56 security issues and is rolling out globally.
  • Samsung says the Fold 4 and Flip 4 will keep getting security updates until 2027, but they will not receive newer major OS upgrades.

Samsung has updated the list detailing how frequently it will offer security updates to Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Along with dropping support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3, the brand has also downgraded the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 from a monthly security update schedule to a quarterly one (via DroidLife).

It means that the two phones will now get one security update every quarter, or once every three months. While that’s a bummer, it isn’t unusual. A few years after a phone’s launch, the company typically downgrades its security update frequency. What should be reassuring for users is that both phones will continue to receive security updates until 2027.

At the same time, Samsung has released the August 2026 security update for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. It fixes 56 security issues found in the previous firmware of these phones, making them more secure than before.

The South Korean tech giant appears to be rolling out the updates globally. The update for the book-style foldable carries firmware version F936BXXSCIZH4, while the one for the clamshell one carries firmware version F721BXXSCIZH3.

On a related note, it is worth pointing out that after rolling out One UI 8.0 (Android 16) to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Samsung stopped offering major OS upgrades for the two phones. This means they won’t receive One UI 8.5 or One UI 9.0.
