Last week, Samsung rolled out the January 2023 security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, the update was available only for the international variant of the device. Today, Samsung is expanding the January 2023 security patch to the carrier-locked version of the device in the US (SM-F926U). The company is also offering the same security update to the carrier-unlocked version of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 (SM-916U1) in the country.
The new software update for the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 3 has firmware version F926USQS2EWA2 in the US, and it is currently available for devices on Comcast and Xfinity Mobile networks. On the other hand, the firmware for the carrier-unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 is F916U1UEU2IVLA, and it is available for devices on Comcast, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile networks in the US. The new updates for both devices bring the January 2023 security patch which fixes 50 security issues.
While your phone should notify you any moment now about the latest security update, you can check for it manually by heading to Settings » Software Update and tapping the Download and install button. The other way to get the latest update is to download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 are currently enjoying monthly security updates. However, the first-generation Galaxy Fold was downgraded to quarterly security update status. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 are also eligible to get the Android 13-based One UI 5.1 update later this year.
