Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 4 today. This highly anticipated device has big shoes to fill. It takes over the baton from the Galaxy Z Flip 3, one of Samsung’s most popular devices from last year. The clamshell device accounted for over 70% of Samsung’s foldable sales and the company will be hoping that its successor does a similarly stellar job.

At first glance, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a worthy successor. Samsung has made meaningful improvements to the device. Even though significant design changes are missing, there’s plenty new to unfold with this device.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a true flagship smartphone

The straightened edges give the device a modern look while the glossy metal frames make it pop. The contrasting hazed back glass makes the colors look vibrant. A slimmer hinge rounds out the design nicely. The device itself is fashioned out of Samsung’s tough Armor Alumnium for increased durability. Gorilla Glass Victurs+ on the cover display and the glass panel also adds to its durability. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 has an IPX8 water resistance rating.

The larger cover display is one of the biggest improvements Samsung has made. It’s a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED panel. New software features make it easier for users to capture photos and videos with the cover display, make calls, reply to text messages, access Samsung Pay, and even unlock their car without needing to unfold the device.

When unfolded, users are greeted by the 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Flex Mode, now called FlexCam, is now optimized for popular social media apps like Facebook and Instagram so that users can take pictures at various angles by partially folding the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

With the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 under the hood, this is a bonafide flagship smartphone. The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, the highest yet for the clamshell series. The rear dual camera setup includes a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor coupled with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. There’s a 10-megapixel selfie camera as well. The battery is 12% bigger than its predecessor at 3,700mAh with support for 25W fast charging.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 will be available in Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, and Blue colors. Prices start at $999, so contrary to the rumors, it’s not going to be more expensive. The device will be released on August 26, 2022.
