We've been hearing reports of Samsung smartphones developing permanent green lines on their displays for years. Now, a similar issue appears to have affected at least one of the brand's smartwatches, the Gaalxy Watch 4.

According to Reddit user HKNworld, their Galaxy Watch 4 developed a permanent greenish-white vertical line on the right side of the display after being updated to One UI 8 Watch. The user also shared images of the issue, which you can check out below.

When a device with an OLED display performs demanding tasks, such as installing a major software update, its internal temperature can rise significantly. In some cases, that heat may damage the OLED panel, potentially leading to permanent vertical lines or sub-pixel failure. That could be what happened to this particular Galaxy Watch 4, although the exact cause remains unclear.

The user hasn't said whether they contacted Samsung or, if they did, what response they received. Since the Galaxy Watch 4 launched in 2021, it's also likely that the device is no longer covered under warranty.

If a Galaxy smartphone under warranty develops this issue, Samsung has often replaced the display free of charge. The company has also run service programs for out-of-warranty phones affected by the problem, offering free screen replacements. Hopefully, Samsung will introduce a similar support program for Galaxy Watch models if more cases begin to surface.
