It seems that the latest Galaxy Watch 4 update doesn't update the time and date in ambient mode. Essentially, the values are stuck until manually refreshed. Although the Galaxy Watch 4 offers a lot more, very often people just want to glance at it to check the time, and the latest update breaks that very critical function.
The Reddit user opines that the root of the problem could be the onTimeTick() method not being invoked in ambient mode. Usually, it is called every minute to ensure that the time and date values are up to date. The problem only affected older watch faces that use the WatchFaceService.Engine.
Newer Galaxy Watch 4 watch faces do not use the aforementioned engine and should not be afflicted by the bug. However, it is still a bug that Samsung needs to address, and it is yet to acknowledge the issue officially. Given the small scale of the problem, Samsung will probably take its own time to issue a fix.
