Galaxy Tab S12 will get One UI updates for just as long as the Z Fold 8

Samsung has just unveiled its latest premium tablet duo. The Galaxy Tab S12+ and the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra will go on sale in select markets on October 7, running the latest software: Android 17 and One UI 9.0.

According to Samsung, you shouldn't have anything to worry about regarding long-term software support. Samsung's firmware policy for the premium Tab series hasn't changed in two years, neither for better nor worse.

The Galaxy Tab S12 series will receive seven OS upgrades and seven years of security patches.

That was the year when Samsung last changed its Galaxy Tab S firmware update policy. It went from four OS upgrades and five years of security patches to seven OS upgrades and seven years of security releases.

The Galaxy Tab S10 series was the first premium tablet to benefit from this policy upgrade in 2024, and now the latest Galaxy Tab S12 duo enjoys the same treatment.

If you're wondering, most Samsung Galaxy phones, including 2026 models such as the Galaxy S26 and the latest Z8 foldables, follow the same seven-year firmware upgrade policy. But there are exceptions. Flagship phones usually get faster, wider access to One UI public and beta releases. Plus, tablets can skip minor One UI updates in some cases. The Galaxy Tab S11 shipped with One UI 8.0, skipped One UI 8.1, and eventually received One UI 8.5.

However, in theory, the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra should receive One UI updates until around 2033–2034, depending on how promptly Samsung releases the final major firmware update for the series.
