Galaxy S27 Ultra price pressure rises further after Qualcomm's latest move

These are not really the best of times to be a buyer of consumer electronics. Everything's more expensive as companies are forced to raise prices due to supply chain upheaval. We've just seen Samsung raise prices across the board for its new foldable phones, which also use the Snapdragon chipsets.

It's already expected that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could end up being more expensive than the model it's replacing. The pressure is only building up after Qualcomm reportedly notifies its customers of impending double-digit hikes.

Bloomberg reports that Qualcomm has sent a letter to customers this week informing them that it will raise its chip prices by a double-digit percentage due to rising costs. The new prices will reportedly be applicable on products shipped after September 1, 2026.

Qualcomm hasn't commented on the report, which also mentions that the company justified the hikes to customers by highlighting that it's having to pay higher prices on components required for chip manufacturing. The report adds that Qualcomm has tried to absorb the hike, including by trying to find alternative suppliers, but it's out of options now and has to implement the increase.

This means that the company's chipsets and other products, including its flagship Snapdragon chipsets used in devices like the Galaxy S26 Ultra, will be more expensive.

If Samsung has to pay more for the Snapdragon chip for the Galaxy S27 Ultra while also having to pay exponentially more for the RAM and storage chips used in that device, it's easy to see that it'll have to ask customers like you and I to pay more as well.
