Samsung’s second Galaxy S Ultra phone, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, brought with it an additional camera over its predecessor, the Galaxy S20 Ultra — a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Since then, every Ultra model up to the latest Galaxy S26 Ultra has retained a 3x optical zoom telephoto camera. However, that could change with Samsung’s next non-foldable flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

According to well-known tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may drop the dedicated 3x telephoto camera found on its predecessor altogether. Instead, the phone’s new 200MP primary sensor—expected to be different from the one used in the current model—will handle 3x zoom shots. The tipster also claims that Samsung is confident the new main camera can effectively replace the traditional 3x optical zoom lens.
