TL;DR

  • Samsung may skip LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 on the Galaxy S27 Ultra because supply of the new chips is limited.
  • A tipster says only a few major brands will get these next-gen memory and storage parts, likely for limited-edition flagships.
  • The S27 Ultra is still expected to get a bigger silicon-carbon battery, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for Galaxy, and new cameras.

Back in March, we learned that Samsung's next flagship non-foldable smartphone, the Galaxy S27 Ultra, could feature LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage, marking a significant upgrade over the LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Unfortunately, the chances of that happening now appear to be lower.

A popular tipster, Lanzuk, says that the “current situation” regarding the Galaxy S27 Ultra featuring LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage is “not good.” They claim that only a few major brands are expected to adopt these next-generation technologies, and only for their limited edition flagship models next year, due to the limited supply of these chips.

Samsung's flagship smartphones typically sell in much higher volumes than those of most competing brands. While securing a limited supply of next-generation memory and storage chips may be feasible, sourcing enough units for a mass market device is far more challenging. That could be why Samsung may decide to skip LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

On a positive note, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to feature a significantly higher battery capacity than that of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, by using batteries with silicon-carbon chemistry. There’s also some good news in the processing and imaging departments. The phone is said to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for Galaxy, despite is rising prices, as well as new front and rear cameras.
