Galaxy S27 Edge may be in the works for a 2027 comeback

Samsung's Galaxy S lineup for 2027 is reportedly growing. The flagship trio will become a quartet with the addition of a Pro model, and now, a couple of new rumors suggest that the Edge might also make a comeback.

They should be taken with a pinch of salt. They're already conflicting, but both have one common thread: They claim that Samsung is working on a new ultra-thin model, the Galaxy S27 Edge.

One rumor states that the Galaxy S27 Edge may have a 5.8-inch display, a 4,300mAh battery, and a body in the low-4mm range. The counter-rumor suggests that the screen is actually 6.8 inches and the thickness is 5.4mm.

Is either one true? Time will tell. The original Galaxy S25 Edge didn't get a sequel this year.

Apple is also rumored to be launching a new iPhone Air in early 2027, so it's not impossible to imagine Samsung wanting to compete with its biggest rival in the ultra-thin phone niche once again.

The original Galaxy S25 Edge featured a 6.7-inch display and measured 5.8mm in thickness. Unfortunately, it didn't meet Samsung's sales expectations, partly because early buyers complained about subpar battery life.

However, Samsung has officially adopted silicon-carbon batteries for the first time this year. The Galaxy Z Flip 8, Fold 8, and Fold 8 Ultra all have Si-C batteries. And Samsung is expected to implement this technology in more Galaxy models in 2027.

Needless to say, given that battery life was arguably the Galaxy S25 Edge's weakest link, a Si-C battery could rewrite history and turn the Galaxy S27 Edge into an overnight success.

Assuming Samsung really wants a new Edge model on the market, it probably won't be released alongside the main Galaxy S27 quartet. The Galaxy S25 Edge was announced in May, four months after the S25 series' debut. We'll keep you posted if more details emerge.
