Samsung announced earleir today that the Galaxy S25 will soon be awarded with the prestigious Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) Recycling Design Award. It is given each year to products that receive the highest score in terms of sustainability. The flagship smartphone lineup from Samsung uses several parts made from recycled materials.
Every year since 2006, Recycled Materials Association (ReMA), a North American recycling industry association, awards products with the most sustainable designs. For 2025, ReMA has decided to offer the Galaxy S25 series with the ReMA Recycling Design Award.
With its newest flagship phone, Samsung has expanded the use of recycled materials, and reduced the use of resources.
ReMA analyzes products to check the use of recycled materials, minimization of environmental impact during the production phase, ease of recycling the product, and the economic viability of recycling. The 2025 ReMA Recyclable Design Awards ceremony will be held on May 14 at the ReMA Convention in San Diego, California, USA.
Samsung has been making efforts to use recycled materials and reduce its reliance on limited resources. With its partners, the company has set up a Battery Recycling Circular System (Circular Battery Supply Chain) that recovers and reuses key materials from discarded batteries of Galaxy phones.
The Galaxy S25 uses a total of eight recycled materials, including aluminum, iron, and some rare earth elements. For its side frame, it uses recycled Armor Aluminum. The phone's packaging is also made from 100% recycled paper. Samsung also has a self-repair program, which promotes the reduction of electronic waste and supports customers who want to repair their phones by themselves.
Robin Wiener, president and CEO of the Recycling Industry Association of North America, said, “Samsung has demonstrated leadership in this area by integrating sustainability principles into the Galaxy S25’s entire lifecycle—from design through use and disposal. The company’s use of a variety of recycled materials demonstrates its passion for innovation and environmentally responsible product design.“
To reduce its impact on the environment, Samsung is aiming to use 100% renewable energy at all its plants where mobile devices and home appliances are manufactured. Moreover, it also aims to use at least one recycled material to all parts of its smartphones by the year 2030.
