Qualcomm made a custom processor called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy for the Galaxy S23. It is an overclocked version of the standard Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is usually the case with the Plus version of the chipset. So, it could very well be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 model. This raised questions about whether Qualcomm will skip the official Plus version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Well, there is an exciting rumor.

As per the known leaker on Weibo (via ITHome), Qualcomm could launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor sooner than expected. Usually, Qualcomm holds a summit in December to unveil its flagship next-gen chipset. However, this time around, the chipmaker might announce its next chipset by the end of October 2023. So, it seems like Qualcomm isn’t afraid to adjust its schedule to reveal its new chip.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will come with a new core configuration

Also, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to pack a new configuration. The speculated codename for the 8 Gen 3 is ‘Lanai,’ and it comes with the internal model number SM8650. This chipset may come with a 1+5+2 core configuration different from the 1+4+3 core configuration on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This new core configuration on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may boost energy efficiency by 20%. And a modified version of this chip could be used in various Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Whether or not there will be an official Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Plus variant is unclear. Moreover, there isn’t any concrete information that Qualcomm may actually introduce its next-generation 8 Gen 3 chipset earlier this year.
