Galaxy S24 series won’t use an Exynos SoC anywhere, says new rumor

Samsung might not develop its own custom CPU cores for future Exynos mobile chipsets, but that hasn't stopped the company from pursuing new high-end Exynos SoCs based on ARM CPU cores. Rumors have it that Samsung is working on a new Exynos chipset featuring ARM-designed cores, but even if this silicon will be aimed at the top end of the market, the Galaxy S24 flagship series won't use it.

Or at least, that's what one Twitter leaker with an average track record believes. According to this source, the Galaxy S24 flagships won't use an Exynos SoC anywhere in the world. As a result, the Galaxy S24 should be similar to the ongoing S23 series in that it may be powered exclusively by Qualcomm chipsets, presumably the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

According to previous rumors, this upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC may have a 1 + 5 + 2 CPU core architecture featuring one Cortex-X4 mega-core clocked at up to 3.75GHz, five Cortex-A720 CPU Cores operating at 3.0GHz, and two Cortex-A520 CPU cores running at 2.0GHz.

The ongoing Galaxy S23 series broke the duality between Snapdragon and Exynos markets. Through a new partnership with Qualcomm, Samsung decided to release only one flagship variant worldwide, powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC everywhere. This partnership had its benefits, as the Galaxy S23 phones are the only ones in the world to feature overclocked “for Galaxy” versions of the Snapdragon SoC. They boast higher primary CPU and GPU frequencies.

It is possible that if this partnership continues and the Galaxy S24 is powered exclusively by a Snapdragon chipset, it, too, will be overclocked to have a leg up over Samsung competitors. But the Korean tech giant should announce the Galaxy S24 in early 2024, so there's plenty of time left for specifications to change. Such early rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt.
