The Galaxy S23 offers a massive performance and power efficiency jump over its predecessors, thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor. And the Galaxy S24 series is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor as well, and we can continue to see similar improvements next year. The information about the Galaxy S24’s possible processor has leaked months before the announcement.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with a brand new CPU core configuration could be used in Galaxy S24 series

Developer and notable tipster Kuba Wojciechowski has leaked the CPU and GPU configuration of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The chipset has model number SM8650 and codename Lanai or Pineapple. The processor reportedly features one ARM Cortex-X series ‘Gold+’ CPU core, two ARM Cortex-A7xx ‘Titanium’ CPU cores, three ARM Cortex-A7xx ‘Gold’ CPU cores, and two ARM Cortex-A5xx ‘Silver’ CPU cores. The clock speeds of these CPU cores is not known yet.

The chipset will not support 32-bit Android apps or games as it lacks any CPU core that can run 32-bit Android code, which means all developers would have to update their apps to a 64-bit architecture. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also features the Adreno 750 GPU (Adreno Gen 7.9.0) clocked at 770MHz. However, its clock speed could be higher in an actual smartphone. As expected, it will launch with support for Android 14 and Linux Kernel 6.1. It could be made using an improved 4nm process from TSMC or a 3nm process from Samsung Foundry.

ARM hasn’t revealed its next-generation CPU and GPU cores yet, but the announcement could happen well before the announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Samsung is expected to use a slightly modified version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung may stick to 200MP camera sensor for next few years

Unlike most other smartphone brands, which are moving towards a 1-inch camera sensor while keeping the 50MP resolution in flagship devices, Samsung is moving in the other direction. It is using a 200MP camera sensor which is much smaller than the 1-inch sensor used in competing smartphones. And it looks like it will stick to […]

We’ve had a lot of positive things to say about Samsung, and we’ve also had a lot of negative things to say. Still, whenever the company […]
