Regardless of where you stand on AI, Samsung's new Galaxy S24 flagship phones might end up disrupting the mobile market like no other Galaxy S handsets before them. So far, people seem to be loving the new Galaxy S24 series, and as such, other OEMs and retailers might have to make some price adjustments to stay competitive.
We're entering the post-Galaxy S24 era, in which older Galaxy phones and phones from other brands might have to get price cuts to stay relevant. Market watchers and retailers in the UAE (via Khaleej Times) expect older phones — even Galaxy ones — to get hefty discounts in the coming weeks.
Some retailers reportedly expect the Galaxy S23 lineup to drop in price between 10% and 38%. The CEO of Jumbo Group believes that Samsung's rival brands might respond to the success of the Galaxy S24 series with price adjustments for their mid-range and high-end models.
Meanwhile, ECity expects previous Galaxy phones to get discounts of up to 10%. So, if you don't care about any of the new AI features, you could soon buy a 2023 Galaxy flagship and benefit from a lower price.
Nobody else is ready for the era of AI
Samsung's new Galaxy S24 flagships boast better and brighter displays, faster chipsets with improved cooling, and, more importantly, numerous software improvements and new features powered by AI and Large Language Models.
Simply put, the Galaxy S24 is Samsung's first phone to use these AI-based technologies, and the competition – whether it consists of phones from other OEMs or older Galaxy models – is ill-equipped to compete with the disruptive Galaxy S24 series.
For now, it looks like Samsung's new phones have no real contender. Even other Galaxy devices have to wait for a One UI 6.1 update before they can borrow some of these latest AI-based capabilities many people seemingly to want to try. In the meantime, rival brands will have to ask for less money to compensate for the shift in demand.
