The carrier-locked and carrier-unlocked variants of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra for the United States are getting a new software update. It brings the May 2024 security patch to these smartphones, which fixes 45 security uses. Samsung released the same security update to the international variant of these phones last month.
The new software update for the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra bumps their firmware version to G981USQS9HXE2, G986USQS9HXE2, and G988USQS9HXE2 respectively. Whereas, the latest update for the carrier-unlocked variants of three smartphones changes their firmware version to G981U1UES9HXE2, G986U1UES9HXE2, and G988U1UES9HXE2 respectively.
If you own a carrier-locked or carrier-unlocked variant of the Galaxy S20, S20+, or S20 Ultra for the United States, your phone should have automatically notified you about the update. If it hasn’t, you can check for the new firmware manually by going to Settings » Software update » Download and install. If you aren’t seeing an update even after doing that, you can download it from our database and install it manually.
In April, Samsung downgraded the Galaxy S20 series from the monthly to the quarterly security update schedule. It means that these phones will be getting one security update every three months rather than every month. If that’s making you think about getting a new device, the Galaxy S24 will be a perfect upgrade for you.
