The update has firmware version M536BXXU1BVK4. It includes the October 2022 security patch and should be available across the Old Continent regardless of country. Then again, Samsung updates don't usually roll out everywhere at once, so if you haven't received the update notification already, you may have to wait a while longer.
Or, of course, you can try opening the Settings app on the phone, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” Another alternative is to download the official firmware files from our website and install the update manually using a PC.
The Galaxy A53 5G already received Android 13 a couple of weeks ago, but that didn't guarantee a timely release for the Galaxy M53 5G. Although similar in name, the Galaxy A53 5G and M53 5G aren't cut from the same cloth. The Galaxy M53 5G ships with a MediaTek chipset instead of an Exynos 1280 SoC; it has a different camera setup and a slightly larger AMOLED display.
As the Galaxy M53 5G shipped with Android 12 and One UI 4.1, Android 13 is its first major firmware update. If other devices that already run One UI 5.0 are any indication, the new update should make the Galaxy M53's UI snappier. In addition, the phone should offer more personalization options through an expanded Material You color palette and a reworked lock screen customization menu.
You can check out our One UI 5.0 videos below, but keep in mind that we used the Galaxy S22 as a benchmark, and some features showcased in the videos might be missing from the Galaxy M53 5G.
And if you're tempted to buy the Galaxy M53 5G in Europe now that the phone runs One UI 5.0, you might find it at a discount around this time of year. Samsung Germany, for example, has cut €30 off the retail price, and as of this writing, the phone costs €439.
