The core purpose of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 is to help users find misplaced belongings or lost pets through the SmartThings app, or more specifically, SmartThings Find.
That's the basic job of any tracker, but Samsung's SmartThings app hides a setting that flips the SmartTag 2's dynamic. When enabled, your tracker could help you avoid losing your belongings in the first place.
It's called “Notify when left behind.” When you and your phone move outside the tracker's range, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 sends a notification to your phone to let you know you've left something behind.
As useful as it is, this feature won't suit every situation. For example, you might keep a SmartTag 2 in your laptop bag, but you won't always want to take that bag with you when you leave home. In cases like that, you may prefer to leave the setting off to avoid getting notified every time you head out without it.
Otherwise, it seems like a genuinely handy feature. Thankfully, I haven't had to rely on it yet, but it feels like a welcome failsafe. Here's what you have to do if you want to set it up.
If you want to give this Galaxy SmartTag 2 feature a try, you won't find it in the most obvious places. You kind of have to know where to look.
We'll assume you've already set up your Galaxy SmartTag. Here's what you have to do next:
Optionally, you can also enable Notify when movement detected.

NOTE: You can also access the SmartThings Find map through the Life tab on the main SmartThings screen.
If you need a Galaxy SmartTag 2, Samsung sells the tracker individually or in packs of four, and you can often find it discounted through the company's online store.
