The Samsung 870 Evo, a 2.5-inch SATA-based SSD, was launched in January 2021. It is available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, priced at $39.99, $69.99, $129.99, $249.99, and $479.99, respectively. Since its launch, the storage drive has been getting more affordable. Today, it is available for a record-low price. Amazon is selling the 2TB storage variant of the Samsung 870 Evo SSD for just $109.99. That’s a 58% discount on the launch price of the SSD.
Typically, PCIe-based SSDs (also known as NVMe drives) are faster than SATA-based SSDs. Lately, NVMe SSDs, despite having faster performance, are being sold at lower prices than SATA SSDs. However, people who have an older desktop/laptop that doesn’t support PCIe SSD or people who have exhausted PCIe connections (or M.2 slots) on their PC have to look at 2.5-inch SATA-based storage drives. And if you are in the market for one, the Samsung 870 Evo is arguably the best out there.
The Samsung 870 Evo has 560MB/s sequential read and 530MB/s sequential write speeds, which is one of the best among all the SATA SSDs. Plus, it is rated for 1,200 TBW, which is higher than any similarly-priced NVMe SSD. That means the Samsung 870 Evo is also an excellent option for people who want an affordable SSD with high TBW to store CCTV footage or for purposes that involve high data usage. Plus, the Samsung 870 Evo is one of the highest-rated SSDs on Amazon. No wonder it still sells in large numbers.
If you have been eyeing the Samsung 870 Evo SSD, we think now is the time to grab it. Samsung/Amazon haven’t mentioned for how long the storage drive will be available at the discounted price, but prices could bounce back soon. If you are in the market for an NVMe drive, however, you can take a look at the Samsung 990 Pro, which is also available at a massive discount at the moment.
