Samsung has been working very hard to promote and expand its Tizen operating system which still can't hold a candle of Android when it comes down to features, app support and even name recognition. Android is truly a global phenomenon with over a billion people using the operating system in its various forms and manifestations. Samsung introduced its first Tizen powered smartphone, the Samsung Z1, earlier this year in India where it performed well above expectations. The handset was then released in Bangladesh where it exhibited similar performance, it actually accounted for 23.4 percent of the smartphone market in Bangladesh during the first quarter of 2015.

The company is now expected to unveil a new Tizen handset which it will release in more countries across the globe, such as China, Russia, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Moreover, it's also likely to release Tizen powered premium home appliances in the near future, Samsung has already released Tizen powered smart TVs, the Q9000 smart air conditioner and the Chef Collection Refrigerator this year. Samsung is also focusing on increasing developer support for this platform by holding events in major countries, the Tizen Developer Summit India 2015 is scheduled for next month and in September it's going to host the Tizen Developer Conference in Shenzhen, China.

According to a report Samsung is also working to make a software development kit or SDK public to further boost developer support for the platform. Many believe that this is part of a long-term effort by Samsung to end its reliance on Android particularly for smartphones and tablets. However it goes without saying that an immediate switch to Tizen is not feasible at all since there's a massive app gap between the two platforms, and Tizen is as yet not tried and tested on high-end flagship models. For the foreseeable future Samsung is going to stick with Android.
