Yesterday, Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge at its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event in Barcelona, Spain. One of the major changes with its new smartphones is the design, it's a drastic change compared to their older siblings. Mr. JK Shin, CEO and President of Samsung Electronics, made it clear on stage that the company has designed the new smartphones keeping the customer feedback in mind, and learning from both its successes and missteps in the past.
According to the positive initial feedback received by the products, Andy Tu – GM, Samsung mobile communication, Taiwan – believes that the Galaxy S6 will outsell its predecessors. 2014 wasn't a great year for Samsung, its market share plummeted and the Galaxy S5 received poor sales. The Korean firm is now doing everything it can to be back on the number one spot, and so far things are looking good.
The biggest disappointment customers had with the Galaxy S5 was its cheap plastic build, they felt that the device wasn't premium enough to be worthy of its hefty price tag. Samsung has fixed exactly that with the S6 by going with a glass and metal construction, at an expense, however. Samsung had to get rid of its two major selling points, a removable battery and microSD slot to expand storage. So, we shall see how customers react when the device goes on sale in Q2, 2015.
