Samsung Galaxy Golden gets Rs. 20,000 ($330) price cut in India

In what is one of the biggest price cuts we've seen for a smartphone, Samsung has reduced the price of the Galaxy Golden, an overpriced clamshell phone it launched last year, by Rs. 20,000 (approx. $330) in India. The phone is now available for Rs. 29,999 ($500) instead of Rs. 49,999 ($830) from retailer Flipkart – despite being a huge price cut, it's also one of the most sensible price reductions we've seen, considering the Galaxy Golden offered nothing substantial except for two displays and a form factor long abandoned by the smartphone industry.

Unfortunately, even at the current price, you're not exactly getting your money's worth. The specs include dual 3.7-inch Super AMOLED WVGA (800×480) displays, a 1.7GHz Qualcomm MSM8930 dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear and 1.9-megapixel front-facing cameras, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 1,820 mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The phone offers a physical numeric keypad when it's flipped open, though even that doesn't do much to make this worth buying for most, despite the more sensible pricing that is now in effect.

Oh, and don't be surprised if the lower price makes way for a sequel, since we all know how Samsung loves making newer versions of older phones, without taking into account how well they might have sold the original.
