EXCLUSIVE: Samsung ATIV Core is an upcoming mid-range Windows Phone 8.1 handset

Samsung's return to the Windows Phone market after more than a year-long hiatus is spearheaded by the ATIV SE, a high-end handset that was made official for Verizon a few hours back. Now, we've received information on yet another Windows Phone handset that the Korean manufacturer is working on, dubbed the ATIV Core. The ATIV Core will be a mid-range handset, and the first first Samsung phone to run on Windows Phone 8.1, the latest version of the OS that was announced by Microsoft at its BUILD conference.

The hardware on the ATIV Core will include a 4.5-inch display of 720p resolution, 1GB of RAM, and a 2,100 mAh battery. The camera should be either an 8- or 13-megapixel unit, though we're guessing it will be an 8MP shooter given the other mid-range specs. We're unsure of when Samsung will launch the ATIV Core – Nokia's first Windows Phone 8.1 handsets will be arriving in May, so we're guessing we'll see the ATIV core make an appearance around the same time.
