TL;DR

  • The Galaxy Z Fold 8’s speakers are thin and lack depth, but One UI’s built-in equalizer may improve them without extra apps or hardware.
  • Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects > Equalizer, then try presets or a custom setting while audio is playing.
  • Dynamic sounded best in testing, while Clear and Treble boost may make the speakers worse; speaker and headphone settings are saved separately.

As you've likely heard, one of the Galaxy Z Fold 8's few weaknesses is its speaker setup. The speaker placement isn't ideal, and worse, the drivers sound tinny and lack depth. Fortunately, there may be a way to improve the audio experience on your Galaxy Z Fold 8 without third-party apps or hardware modifications.

One UI has a built-in audio equalizer that can potentially fix, or at least enhance, your Galaxy Z Fold 8's speakers. The equalizer is flat by default, but you can choose from a handful of presets or create a custom one. Here's how:

  • Open Settings on your Galaxy Z Fold 8.
  • Navigate to Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects > Equalizer.
  • Select one of the presets. There are six in total, including the default “Balanced” one. However, you may want to avoid a couple. More on that later.
  • Choose the Dynamic option or try a different one. Make sure you compare the equalizer presets while a song or video is playing in the background on your Fold 8.
  • Optionally, tap Custom and create your own equalizer preset.

In our testing, the Dynamic equalizer preset seems to have made the most positive impact on the Galaxy Z Fold 8's audio. However, the experience can vary depending on what you're listening to and your personal preferences.

Conversely, the Clear and Treble boost equalizer presets arguably make the Galaxy Z Fold 8's speakers sound even worse. We don't recommend using them, but you won't lose anything by trying. Sound can be subjective.

On a final positive note, you don't have to worry about tweaking your Galaxy Z Fold 8's equalizer every time you switch between on-board speakers and headphones.

Thankfully, your Galaxy Z Fold 8 automatically stores a separate profile for each. You can choose an equalizer profile for the on-board speakers and a completely different one for headphones. It's a “set it and forget it” type of deal.
