Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 series has 'real-time' upgrade for Vision Booster display

Samsung's new Galaxy Tab S12 series doesn't bring significant display upgrades, but the company did mention an improvement over the previous generations: Vision Booster.

Although the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Tab S12 Ultra retain the same 1,600-nit display peak brightness as the previous models, Samsung says Vision Booster has been upgraded:

[Vision Booster now] seamlessly adjusts brightness in real time based on lighting conditions for comfortable viewing.

Samsung is light on details. Although the explanation sounds clear enough, it becomes a little vague when you consider previous Galaxy Tab S models.

As far as tablets go, Vision Booster debuted with the Galaxy Tab S9 series. At that time, Samsung described Vision Booster as follows:

This feature automatically detects bright lighting conditions and adapts to keep the screen vivid and clear — ensuring that anyone can enjoy outdoor entertainment, even in direct sunlight.

Samsung's latest definition of the Galaxy Tab S12's Vision Booster suggests the technology has simply gotten faster at what it already did, hence the “real-time” descriptor. But that's just one interpretation and there may be others. In the end, it's a bit of a mystery.

Vision Booster looks to have visually improved on phones since its original debut with the Galaxy S22, and it's only logical to expect the same feature to improve on tablets as well. Even if the underlying tech isn't the main focus, Samsung says the experience should be better.
