Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
Samsung’s first smartphone with a 4:3 aspect ratio book-style foldable display, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, has been a huge hit globally, with the brand reportedly struggling to keep up with demand. As such, there was little doubt that the company would continue the lineup with a successor. However, the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 seems to have encouraged the tech giant to go a step further and launch not one but two wide-format foldable phones next year.
According to a new report from ET News, Samsung is planning to launch five foldable smartphones in 2027. Among them will be two wide-format foldable devices. The first, as you might expect, is the Galaxy Z Fold 9, the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 8. However, the name of the other new wide-format foldable phone is unknown at the moment. Its name would have helped us determine whether the brand plans to position it above or below the Galaxy Z Fold 9.
The other three devices are, as expected, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 9, and Galaxy Z TriFold 2, which will succeed the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Z TriFold, respectively.
In 2024, Samsung launched just two smartphones with foldable displays. The company’s plan to launch five foldable phones in 2027, more than twice as many as it did three years ago, shows just how much confidence it has gained in the foldable smartphone market.
