TL;DR

  • Samsung has officially confirmed the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, and S23 FE will get One UI 9.0 based on Android 17 as their final major OS update.
  • The phones launched with One UI 5.1 on Android 13 and have already received three of the four promised major Android upgrades.
  • Samsung is reportedly testing the new software now, but no additional major OS version is planned after One UI 9.0.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series, including the Galaxy S23 FE, with One UI 5.1 (Android 13) and promised to offer these devices four major Android OS upgrades. So far, the brand has delivered three of those updates, with the lineup currently running One UI 8.5 (Android 16 QPR2).

That means the Galaxy S23 series is still eligible for one final major OS upgrade, which should be One UI 9.0 (Android 17). The company also seems to have started testing the new software for the three phones. While this has long been expected, the tech giant has now officially confirmed it.

Popular tipster Tarun Vats has shared a screenshot of an alleged conversation with Samsung regarding the Galaxy S23 FE's software update policy. According to the exchange, the brand confirmed that Android 17 (One UI 9.0) will be the device's final major OS update.

The same policy also applies to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, as all four devices launched with the same Android version and share the same software update commitment. While this doesn't reveal anything new, it serves as an official confirmation of what the tech giant had previously promised.
