Another clever use for titanium.

Samsung's 2026 foldable phone lineup is far more exciting than it has been in recent years. A third model is joining the series, and several unexpected upgrades made the cut, including the lineup's first Silicon-Carbon (Si-C) battery.
But one of the other most significant upgrades that caught the attention of fans even before Unpacked kicked off was the so-called “creaseless” display. Does it really exist?
Well, sort of. We saw the final product at Unpacked, and while it isn't completely flawless, it certainly looks better than ever. What is Samsung's secret?
Samsung is no stranger to using titanium in the construction of its mobile devices. A couple of recent premium Galaxy phones and Watches have titanium bodies, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 introduced a display backplate made of the same material last year.
For the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, Samsung found one more creative use for titanium through a new technology called Flex Titanium.
The latter consists of a titanium alloy film embedded within the display substrate. From top to bottom, these are the primary display layers that make up Samsung's new Flex Titanium technology:

The newly added titanium alloy film complements the existing titanium backplate but serves a different purpose. According to Samsung, it:
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are the first and so far only Samsung phones to use Flex Titanium.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8, which completes the 2026 flagship trio, seemingly uses a more traditional foldable panel structure without the titanium alloy film.
Exactly how effective the new display solution is remains to be seen. In theory, it could also prevent the display crease from becoming more pronounced over time. So it may enhance visibility and durability alike.
