Amid the ongoing memory and storage chip shortage, Samsung has launched a new SSD in India. The 990 SSD is almost as fast as the company's higher-priced SSDs, but it uses 4-bit QLC NAND flash instead of TLC NAND. This makes it cheaper, although it has lower endurance.
The Samsung 990 SSD is a PCIe 4.0 drive with sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and 6,450MB/s, respectively. It is available in 1TB and 2TB models, priced at INR 25,649 (~$266) and INR 50,349 (~$523), respectively. The SSD will be available for purchase in India starting in the last week of July. It uses the M.2 2280 form factor.
The SSD is primarily designed for secondary data storage, budget setups, or secondary game libraries. The 1TB model has an endurance rating of 400TBW, while the 2TB version is rated for 800TBW. That makes its endurance 33% lower TBW than the 990 Evo, 990 Evo Plus, and 990 Pro SSDs.

The SSD comes with Samsung Magician software and offers AES 256-bit full-disk encryption, TCG/Opal V2.0, and Encrypted Drive (IEEE 1667) security features. It also has a three-year limited warranty.
