Samsung launches 990 EVO SSD in India

Last week, Samsung unveiled its new mainstream internal SSD990 EVO—for computers, laptops, consoles, and other devices. Today, the company has launched the 990 EVO SSD in India, and it comes with an affordable price tag.

990 EVO SSD pricing in India

The 990 EVO SSD is now available in India in 1TB and 2TB variants through offline and online authorized stores. It comes in black color, and its 1TB version is priced at just INR 9,999 ($120). The 2TB version of the 990 EVO SSD is priced at INR 16699 ($200). It is a successor to the 970 EVO Plus SSD that was launched a couple of years ago. Some may think that it is an upgrade over the 980 PRO SSD, but it isn't. Samsung is offering a five-year limited warranty for this new SSD. It is promising a total functionality of 600TB for the 1TB version and 1,200TB for the 2TB version of the SSD.

990 EVO SSD specs

It is compatible with both PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces and is made for everyday usage, including gaming, multimedia editing, and everyday work. It has sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 4,200 MB/s. Random read and write speeds of up to 700K IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) and 800K IOPS, respectively. Samsung is using its in-house V-NAND 3-TLC chips and SSD controller. It uses the host computer's DRAM using the HMB (Host Memory Buffer) technology for optimized performance even without a dedicated DRAM chip. It has 70% improved power efficiency compared to the 970 EVO Plus SSD, so it can offer longer battery life on laptops. It also supports Microsoft's Modern Standy feature for instant on/off functions.
