Secure messaging service Telegram previously had a Wear OS app. Since the Galaxy Watch 4 and 4 Classic ran on this operating system, the app could be installed on them. However, Telegram dropped support for Wear OS entirely back in 2021.
It's been five years, and Telegram is finally making a comeback for Wear OS. This also means that all eligible Galaxy Watch models will be able to run the app.
Telegram hadn't said back in 2021 if and when it would bring back the app to Wear OS devices. It has now brought the app back to the wearable platform without much fanfare.
The wearable version of this app is quite close in terms of functionality to the full phone version. The interface is quite similar across both platforms, with even the same chat backgrounds from the connected phone carrying over to the wearable device. Some visual adjustments have been made to ensure that the app works well with the circular displays on Wear OS devices like the Galaxy Watch.
There's support for groups and communities, with layered message cards making it easy to read through the messages. A shortcut is also provided in the chat windows so that users can easily open up the full conversation on the connected smartphone.
The official Telegram Wear OS app is currently being made available to those users who were enrolled in Telegram's beta program on the Play Store. They can now install the official version of the Wear OS app.
